Several years ago I discovered that the backpack is the most practical way to move between places, the wheels do not break and your arms and back do not hurt from dragging suitcases up and down. Let’s face it, carrying your backpack on your back also makes you more selective when choosing what to take and what stays.

The key to every trip is to choose well what we carry with us. You are going to be getting on airplanes and buses continuously. You will walk and tour the cities with your luggage on you and you must do it in a practical and intelligent way. I’m not going to tell you if you should take two pairs of shirts or three, but it is what is never missing in my backpack when starting my adventures.

7 + 1 Essentials that I always take on a trip:

#1 Backpack 50L

Lets start by the beginning. What comes before the chicken or the egg? We cannot start the backpack section without a backpack.

There are three things you need to know when choosing your type of backpack. First, that it is not very big and you can take it up to the cabin. This borders the limits, rather exceeds them and the low cost airlines in Europe will not let you board it and you will have to check in. For international flights with short stopovers and where you can lose your luggage, they will not give you any problem to bring your luggage to the cabin. The low-cost airlines in Asia and Latin America will not fault you either, since it looks relatively small.

Second, that it has compartments. There are many things that we must always carry by hand, footwear, medicines, charger, passport … You will want to have everything stored and at hand at the same time.

Third and last, that the backpack is not very expensive, since you are going to throw it on the ground, you will carry it anywhere and it will eventually be a mess. This Decathlon I use is perfect. Of course, I have it decorated with country flags.

#2 Day backpack 30L

But of course, that backpack will stay in the accommodation, you are not going to take it to the trekkings and daily excursions. That’s why you need a backpack to go kick your destiny.

Your day-to-day backpack should be small, you will not be carrying everything, since your luggage will stay in your accommodation. You also don’t want it too big so as not to make the mistake of starting to fill it too much and end up charging it for 12 hours. Not too small, you will want to bring water, mobile, camera etc … Do not buy one of those that only fits a pack of Kleenex.

I recommend that it have a capacity of around 25 – 30 liters. Enough to load the clothes of a trip of a couple of days and for your day-to-day traveling. Do not forget that in many cases you will carry a backpack in front and another behind, since you will carry the small and the large one. This one that I carry, has several compartments and is perfect to know where everything is and locate it quickly, it also comes with a raincoat to cover it.

#3 Camera Sony A6000

I am not an expert in photography, but I do like to immortalize my memories when I am traveling. Photos always look better on a camera than on a mobile, no matter how state-of-the-art it is. I am starting in this world and from what I have read and recommendations that I have received, this camera fulfills its function with a very high note for the price it has.

It is the first camera I bought. Perfect for people who are starting out. It is an EVIL camera, its biggest difference from SLR cameras is that it does not have mirrors and it has a digital image sensor. As far as quality is concerned, there is practically no difference, today’s EVIL cameras are highly developed and compete perfectly with an SLR. The version that I have is the A5100 and it does not have a viewer, but Amazon has stopped selling it. This is the A6000 with similar features.

Automatic mode, 24mpx, 8x digital zoom, Full HD video recording.

#4 GoPro Hero7 White

You are going to need an “adventure” camera either for diving, to get into very humid places, to do adventure sports or to take photos with a wide angle. In this case, there are all prices and all recording qualities. If you are not going to be doing extreme sports, skydiving, cycling or doing very high quality content, you do not need to aim for the highest range.

The Hero7 is a very good adventure camera at a relatively affordable price. You can take photos at 10MP and HD video 1440p. It comes with a touch screen so you can see where you focus, the previous cheaper models did not have it. The moving image looks very sharp and stable thanks to its image stabilizer. Various shooting modes, bursts, interval and has voice control.

#5 Dron DJI Mavic Mini

Truth be told, every time we leave home with more technology on top. But it is inevitable to recognize the past of videos and photos that you can take with a drone. The drones will take you where you cannot go and will take the impossible photos that you cannot take and will give a radical change to all your videos. Although I am not a big fan of the noise they make and that they are somewhat dangerous if you do not control them well, they cannot be missing in my backpack.

It is a miniscule size drone, it fits in your fully extended hand. 12MP camera and HD video, it travels at almost 50km / h maximum speed and has a flight time of 30 min. It has a three-axis stabilizer that guarantees maximum image stability and you can control it at a maximum distance of 4 km. It only weighs 249 grams.

#6 Tripod 150cm

Tripod yes, tripod no … It is no longer about posing to take cool photos. It is about being able to take timelapses, photographs with different light settings for which you will need to have the camera fully stabilized, group photos, immortalize photos as a couple in iconic settings without risking having a disastrous photo taken or being able to take photos of yourself when you are traveling alone.

It is a very good value for money tripod. Its three legs will raise your camera up to 120 cm and you can extend the upper part another 30 cm until reaching 150 cm in height. It comes with a bluetooth remote control that you can configure with your camera, GoPro or mobile. Each of the legs is fully modular and adapts perfectly to the terrain. It comes with different adjustable mounts for cameras and mobiles.

#7 Xiaomi Mi 10T

I have been trusting Xiaomi for 4 years and they have never given me any problems. I have had the Mi9 twice, the second time not because it stopped working but because I fell into the water and it is not a submersible phone although nothing happens if water falls on it.

Xiaomi is perhaps the best value for money brand.

Android operating system Snapdragon 865 with 5G, very fast for any type of applications, it synchronizes with any device and is compatible with practically everything. Four cameras with a maximum resolution of 64MP. Ultra fast charger to charge your device in 80 minutes.

Dual SIM, it will seem silly, but you have everything, accounts and banks synced to your local phone. When you leave Europe you want to be able to continue accessing them without ruining yourself with your national number. So you can receive confirmation SMS to your national number and use data and call with the local SIM.

#7+1 Reusable water bottle

You always have to travel responsibly, not only consuming locally and minimizing our impact on the environment through which we move, but also through actions on the environmental impact. You should drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. That means between 1 and 4 bottles of water a day depending on the format you buy, in most Asian countries they hardly recycle and you find plastic everywhere.

It is your time to contribute your grain of area to make this change. Always carry a reusable bottle with you to fill it in your accommodation with drinking water, in fountains where you can drink or jugs that you know will be reused. This company, 4Ocean, produces all its products with plastics recovered from the sea.
